Vegan Eats on Maui

The Valley Isle has lots to offer vegan and vegetarian diners, and with hip outposts in various towns across the island, you’re sure to find something yummy wherever you might be traveling.

Lahaina & West Side

Choice Health Bar

One of the best vegan restaurants in the islands, and Maui is lucky to have THREE locations where you can enjoy delicious smoothies, juices, gourmet raw foods, soups, salads, and so much more. Over a decade ago I had the opportunity to work with the founders Emily and Katherine, and these ladies are legit superfood babes. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Fully vegan.

A’a Roots

{From their website} a’a Roots revolves around being health-conscious and eco-friendly. We thrive to prepare fresh, locally sourced, vegan dishes, along with freshly pressed juices and smoothies that are infused with superfoods. We are passionate about creating a healthier community by providing healthy options. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Fully vegan.

Baya Bowls

Gorgeous smoothie and acai bowls, coffee, and more sourced with local ingredients. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Seems to be fully vegan (with exception of honey).

Farmer’s Market (Honokawai)

This farmer’s market is actually a storefront that hosts ‘farmer’s markets in their parking lot a few times a week. Over a decade ago I worked in this tiny little store, slinging the best guacamole on island and making superfood smoothies, acai bowls, raw food grab & go, and prepping veggies for the sweet little salad bar. There is also a hot food bar with daily specials. Excellent housemade dips and snacks. Find them on Instagram. Vegetarian (uses dairy but no eggs), very vegan-friendly.

Moku Roots

A brand new cafe (opened late 2018) that’s fully vegetarian and makes homemade taro burgers, salads, awesome wraps and more. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Vegetarian, very vegan-friendly.

Wailuku & Kahului

The Farmacy

The Farmacy actually has two locations (Wailuku and Pukalani). {From their website} “We use only the freshest, high quality, natural ingredients in all of our food. From health-conscious adults to kids looking for a healthy snack, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.” I’m looking forward to their homemade burgers and gorgeous salads.Β  Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Vegetarian, very vegan friendly.

Down to Earth

One of Hawaii’s largest natural food stores, DTE has stores on both Oahu and Maui. Fully vegetarian hot and salad bar, along with baked goods, grab & go grinds, great smoothies, juices, coffee (some locations have espresso drinks). The Kakaako store on Oahu has fresh-made sushi, tempura, baked goods and more. Find them on Facebook and Instagram.Β  Vegetarian (uses dairy but no eggs), very vegan-friendly.

Paia

Mana Foods

A funky health food store to make your inner hippie happy. Amazing local produce, and a small hot food bar along with take away eats. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Omnivore, but vegan-friendly.

Upcountry (Makawao, Haiku, and Kula)

Maui Kombucha

Maui Kombucha was one of my favorite places to eat when I lived on Maui. Gorgeous kombucha (infused with housemade oils, flavors, and hydrasols) that changes selection constantly, along with some of the best gourmet raw foods I’ve ever eaten. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Fully vegan, mostly raw.

Veg-Out

Vegan and vegetarian comfort foods at their finest. The menu at Veg-Out is very ‘old-school’ vegetarian (heavy on cheese) but full of good things like falafel, lasagna, big plates, pizza and more. Two locations (Haiku and Kahului). Find them on Facebook. Fully vegetarian, vegan friendly.

Joy’s Place LIVE (Pukalani)

The LIVE stands for living foods: much of the food on Joy’s list is raw and living; this is a grab & go commercial kitchen with smoothies, milks, ferments, kale chips and more. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Omnivore, but vegan-friendly.

Kihei

Hawaiian Moons Natural Foods

Another little natural foods market with smoothies, acai bowls, juices, and a salad & hot bar for quick takeaway. Find them on Facebook and Instagram. Omnivore, but vegan-friendly.

Joy’s Place Deli

Same owners as Joy’s LIVE in Pukalani. Serving breakfast, lunch, smoothies, and more. Find them on Facebook.Β Omnivore, but vegan-friendly.Β
