Thus far Vegan in Hawaii is a team of … just two. I’m looking forward to building the site and to do that, I need YOUR help! Do you want to join the Vegan in Hawaii team? I’d like to gather a community of writers, editors, farmers, and foodies from all islands to help ensure we focus on the good things on all the islands. Send me a note to say aloha. 🌺
I wanted to build this site to connect the vegan + vegetarian communities here in the Islands, and also to show off all the incredible abundance that that islands have to offer. Tourists from all over the world travel to our island home, and I’d like to show them the best foods on the island are those made from plants.
Not only that, there are awesome people here providing great services: Hawaii has some of the best yoga, hiking, surfing, and farm tours that I’ve ever experienced. I want to share that with our local community and the world.
About me: I’m Andrea B. I’m a plant-based chef, educator, and author. I am also a marketing and media professional working with mission-driven businesses. For almost 10 years I’ve managed my own food + wellness blog, Vibrant Wellness Journal, and I wrote a cookbook a few years ago. I have taught cooking classes for almost a decade in Hawaii + California. I’ve worked on farms, in cafes, and in professional roles for multiple Hawaii-based food companies. I’ve lived in Hawaii for almost 20 years – most of that time on Oahu, with a brief year on Maui and a year+ in San Francisco, too. My favorite things about Oahu are Waimanalo beach, the excellent surf on the South Shore, the quick proximately to mountains, and the overwhelming abundance of gorgeous foods.
My name is Cherise and I’m a born and raised New Jersey girl, but a Hawaiian at heart. My family has spent the majority of my life vacationing in the islands, and it was the only place to ever feel like home to me. In 2016, I started the Vegan in NJ brand and in late 2017, I knew I had to bring something like it to Hawaii. I started it with the Vegan in HI sharing any vegan finds I could with our community. Then I met Andrea, who had bigger and better dreams to build Vegan in Hawaii into the site you see today! At Vegan in NJ, I run meetups, vendor markets, ticketed dinners, potlucks, and whatever else I can think of. Hoping to bring the same to Hawaii!
